Trouble Hearing Vectis Radio?

Firstly here is some help for people having trouble listening to Vectis Radio on their computer, especially Mac users. If when you click on the Listen Live tab on our website, and the page appears but you do not hear anything then you may just be missing a small file. Email the studio stating you can’t hear us and request the file. Someone will reply with the file attached in the email. This has been proved to work on Mac computers particularly and only takes a couple of minutes to do.

Other reasons for not hearing us on Windows based computers might mean you need to make sure your computer has the latest Microsoft Updates, especially if you are using Windows XP. Go to Windows Update in your Start Menu. If you are unsure how to do this just search for Windows Update online.

Internet Explorer may also have to be updated to version 8, however you can download other Internet Browser programs for free. These are free and downloadable. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome are the two most popular.

It has also come to my attention that a website for internet radio has added Vectis Radio to its lists. Use the link below to navigate to the RadioTime website and choose us from the list. This can be used on Palm Pre, IPhone and on Logitech Squeeze Radios. – www.radiotime.com

However if you are still having trouble or getting any error messages or problems with delays or distortion on the sound please email me at the studio using the Contact tab at the top of the website. Any feedback, questions, suggestions are very welcome.

Can I Listen To Vectis Radio On My IPhone?

The is answer YES! Thanks to the wonders of Facebook I have found that someone has posted some helpful information to enable you to do just that. By going to the following link on your IPhone you can download a program called TuneIN. Once installed on your IPhone this program or (App) will give you access to over 3,000 internet radio stations including (yes, you’ve guessed it) VECTIS RADIO.

WiFi Radios

A Wi-Fi radio works and looks like a normal radio, except it uses your wireless internet connection to receive the audio just like your computer getting the internet. You can choose from thousands of radio stations from around the world with a good quality of sound and you don’t have to worry about reception problems. Most big name high street electrical retailers and websites stock a selection of WiFi radios.

How Can I Hear Vectis Radio Through My Radio?

I think most of us would agree that only listening to Vectis radio while sat at our computer desk or through our laptops little speakers is a little restrictive. Not only do some of the great tunes being played deserve a better quality of sound but wouldn’t it be nice to hear it while in the kitchen doing the washing up or chilling out in the living room? Here are a couple of suggestions on how you can do just that.

Plugging your computer/laptop into a HiFi.

This option is going to be open to people who have a HiFi that has what is called an Auxiliary or (AUX) input. Here is an example of what that looks like.

If you have this option then a ‘Headphone to Twin Phono Lead is what you’ll need to plug in. Here is an example of what it looks like.

Although this method is the easiest to use on a daily basis you may not want to have a cable going across the room. If so then continue to read.

Wireless FM Transmitter

An FM transmitter is a small portable device smaller than a mobile phone that transmits sound on an FM frequency. This means that any radio within a few metres that has the FM Band can hear what it is transmitting. Most FM transmitters come with a standard Headphone Jack which means it can plug directly into the Headphone socket of your laptop or computer. Here is an picture of an FM transmitter that I have been using to listen to Vectis Radio.

Follow the instructions that come with the transmitter but essentially all you have to do is pick a frequency that is free from other radio stations then tune the same frequency into your radio. As long as your not too far away you will hear any sound that your computer makes which includes Vectis Radio.

You can still catch me on Bullys’ Afternoon Radio Show once a week as I continue to solve your technical problems. The cable and FM transmitter are both available from Maplin Electronics at www.maplin.co.uk.

Wireless Audio/Video Senders

FM transmitters are ok for a short distance but what if you want to hear Vectis Radio in a different part of the house entirely.  Well I’m here to tell you it’s certainly possible.  Much the same principle as the FM transmitter above there is the transmitter that you plug into your computer and a receiver you plug into your stereo, hifi, surround sound etc. See below for an example:-

Although these Audio/Video senders have sending sky or freeview etc in mind there is no reason why only sound can be sent.  You may have to use different cables than what is provided with the senders however. Click the link below to see the available products at Maplin Electronics however I strongly suggest that you either come and see me at the Maplins shop in Newport or any Maplins employee at any store.  They will be able to explain how it works, how to connect it up and help you choose the best product for you.
